Imelda Shanklin
Imelda Shanklin

Imelda Shanklin was an influential Unity minister, lecturer, editor, and author whose work helped shape the movement during its formative years. When she joined the Unity School of Christianity in 1907, she was reportedly one of only four employees.

Shanklin later became head of Unity’s editorial department and served as editor of Wee Wisdom, the organization’s pioneering spiritual magazine for children. Ordained as a Unity minister by Charles Fillmore, she also shared her teachings through lectures, articles, pamphlets, and books before becoming the spiritual leader of the Unity center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Her best-known work, What Are You?, invites readers to look beyond appearances and discover their true identity as spiritual beings. Through thoughtful lessons on consciousness, purpose, inner resources, and our relationship with God, Shanklin reminds us that transformation begins when we understand not merely who—but what—we truly are.
