Orison Swett Marden

Orison Swett Marden was orphaned by the age of seven and spent much of his childhood living with different guardians. Despite hardship and limited opportunities, he pursued an extraordinary education, earning degrees in medicine and law from Harvard University.

As a young man, Marden discovered self-help by Scottish author and social reformer Samuel Smiles. His message, that determination, character, and persistent effort could transform a person’s circumstances, made a lasting impression on Marden and inspired much of his later work.

Marden went on to become a successful author, entrepreneur, and founder of Success magazine. Through his many books, he encouraged readers to overcome discouragement, develop self-confidence, think optimistically, and make the most of their abilities. His work helped shape the modern personal development and success movements and continues to inspire readers today.
