Ralph Waldo Trine was one of the earliest and most widely read writers of the New Thought movement. His teachings had a profound influence on Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science, and helped introduce millions of readers to the idea that inner harmony, constructive thought, and spiritual awareness can transform our outward lives.
His most famous book, In Tune with the Infinite, was published in 1897 and reportedly sold more than two million copies. In it, Trine taught that peace, power, health, and abundance flow naturally when we bring our thoughts and actions into harmony with the Infinite Life within and around us.
Among Trine’s most prominent admirers was automobile pioneer Henry Ford, who became his friend and discussed with him the inner qualities behind achievement. Their conversations later inspired Trine’s 1929 book The Power That Wins.
Trine’s compassion extended beyond personal development. A committed vegetarian and animal welfare advocate, he served as a director of the American Humane Education Society and wrote Every Living Creature, calling for greater kindness toward animals. This concern for all life reflected the central message running through his work: that our individual well-being is inseparable from the greater life of which we are all a part.
“Every thought you entertain is a force that goes out, and every thought comes back laden with its kind.”
